Android 15 introduces Private Space: A new era of privacy and security

Android 15 marks the introduction of an innovative privacy feature called Private Space. This revolutionary security tool allows users to keep certain apps and data private. For users who have used previous alternatives outside of stock Android, the concept of "Secure Folder" may be familiar. However, with the introduction of Private Space in Android 15, this form of data security has become the new standard in the Android universe.

Although Google has not yet officially announced the implementation of Private Space, such announcements are usually expected with the release of a new version of Android or during Google I/O in May. However, it appears that the feature is already ready to use and could be released in one of the next beta versions of Android 15, so users who are keen to experiment should be on the lookout for this upcoming feature. To get the most out of Private Space, Google recommends that users create a separate Google account. This is to optimise privacy protection. At the same time, Google makes it clear that this is an optional step.

The private space comes with a selection of pre-installed apps such as Google Camera, Chrome, a contacts app, a files app and the Play Store. However, users are free to add more apps as they see fit. The use of apps within the private space is highlighted by a lock icon in the status bar, which also appears in notifications. When the private space is hidden, the associated apps remain hidden and are not visible in the general app list. Accessing your private space requires an active search and toggling a specific switch to make it visible.
